Wedding Dance

Congratulations on your engagement! This is perhaps the most important dance of your life! 

A little planning and practice is essential for a beautiful and romantic first dance.  Even if your big day is approaching quickly, it’s helpful to consider what song you will play and what your first dance will be with a bit of coaching from DancebyErica.

Although having a choreographed dance is ideal, it isn’t always necessary. Just getting a sense of where and how to enter the dance floor, how to hold each other, and some basic elements of dance should really help calm the jitters as all eyes (and cameras) will be on you!   Follow these steps to bring your vision to life.

1. Choose a song.  Slow love songs are always good, but keep in mind that the slower it is, the more balance and control you will need. Faster, “showier” songs are wonderful for getting the party started!
2. Either cut the song or plan to have the dj/band stop it around 2 minutes. This insures that you don’t “lose” your audience.
3. Have DancebyErica help you decide what type of dance to do.  Let us know how big the space will be, and where the guests will be seated, and we will help you prepare an elegant first dance that will last a lifetime!
4. Once you choose your attire, we will have a better idea of how easily you will be able to travel across the floor, and if we can add any “photo ops” such as spins or dips to your dance. We will also help you with a final pose to end the dance.
5. Have family/friends attend a few lessons with you so they may have an enjoyable evening too, dancing the night away!
6. The sooner you get started the better!!!  Typically, it takes one or two hours a week to prepare your dance.  Remember, as your wedding day approaches there will always be last minute details that you will need to take care of, don’t let this cut into your practice time.
7. Have FUN!  The steps you will learn will last you forever and always, be sure to enjoy the process!
